India aims for global power status to ensure sovereignty, says Vice President Radhakrishnan
Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan stated on Monday that India aims to become a leading global power to ensure that no other nation dictates terms to it, rather than to dominate others. Addressing the 66th Course of the National Defence College in New Delhi, he emphasized that national strategy must translate purpose into action and intent into tangible outcomes.
Radhakrishnan identified five broad national priorities: safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity; preserving India’s democratic, secular, and federal character; advancing strategic, political, economic, and military objectives; ensuring a stable environment for growth; and contributing to international peace. He also highlighted the importance of aligning the ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’ vision with national resources and policy choices.
Reflecting on India’s civilizational philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family), the Vice President cited the country’s role as a first responder during disasters and its leadership in climate action. He called for increased international cooperation to address modern security challenges, including terrorism, cyber threats, pandemics, and climate change.
