India and Argentina launch joint Mount Kamet expedition

A joint mountaineering team consisting of 35 soldiers from the Indian and Argentine armies has departed for an expedition to climb Mount Kamet, which stands at an altitude of 7,756 meters in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India.

The team includes 25 soldiers from the Indian Army and 10 from the Argentine Army. The mission was flagged off from the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi by Lieutenant General Ajay Ramdev. The expedition is led by Lieutenant Colonel Chirag Chatterjee.

Mount Kamet is India’s third-highest peak, and the mission is expected to be highly challenging due to low oxygen levels, difficult terrain, and unpredictable weather conditions. This marks the third joint mountaineering expedition between the two nations, following previous successful missions at Mount Aconcagua in Argentina and Mount Kun in Ladakh.
