India and Australia expand defense and education cooperation
India and Australia are expanding bilateral cooperation across defense, strategic, and educational sectors. In the maritime domain, India’s High Commissioner Nagesh Singh met with the newly appointed Chief of the Royal Australian Navy, Vice Admiral Matthew Paul Buckley, to reaffirm their maritime partnership. This follows the 17th Navy-to-Navy Staff Talks held in Sydney, which focused on enhancing operational interoperability and bilateral exercises.
Strategic engagement is also being bolstered through diplomatic and academic channels. High Commissioner Singh met with experts at the Lowy Institute in Sydney to discuss Indo-Pacific stability and regional security.
In the education sector, Australian institutions are deepening ties with Indian counterparts. Senior leaders from the University of Sydney are scheduled to visit Delhi and Mumbai to strengthen research and education partnerships. Additionally, discussions in Sydney between Singh and UNSW officials highlighted the potential of the university’s new Bengaluru campus to foster innovation and academic collaboration between the two nations.
