India and Bangladesh discuss cultural cooperation and heritage conservation

India and Bangladesh have discussed deepening cultural cooperation and exchanges to strengthen people-to-people ties. During a meeting between Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi and Bangladesh’s Minister of Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury, officials explored collaboration in classical music, folk art, heritage conservation, and joint cultural programs.

A primary focus of these discussions is the ‘Nazrul Borsho’ celebrations, a year-long observance in Bangladesh marking the 127th birth anniversary of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The celebrations, running from May 2026 to May 2027, honor the legacy of the poet whose work championed equality and resistance to oppression.

In addition to cultural engagement, recent diplomatic efforts have included meetings between the Indian High Commissioner and leaders of the Bangladesh National Parliament to foster legislative cooperation and parliamentary friendship groups.
