India and Bangladesh witness rare Blue Moon on May 31 2026

A second full moon falls in May 2026, creating a so‑called Blue Moon. The term does not refer to a blue colour; the Moon will actually appear slightly smaller—often termed a micro‑moon—and may show orange or red hues as its light passes through a thicker layer of Earth’s atmosphere near the horizon.

In India and Bangladesh the optimal viewing window is between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. after sunset, and the event can be seen with the naked eye from open spaces such as rooftops. The phenomenon is also linked to cultural and astrological practices, with many people performing rituals, chanting, meditation, or charitable acts on the full‑moon night.

Astronomers note that the May 31 Blue Moon follows an earlier full moon on May 1, making it a rare calendar occurrence.
