India and China agree to deepen trade and economic cooperation

India’s ambassador to China, Vikram Doraiswami, met with Chinese Vice‑Minister and CPC Leadership Group member Yan Dong in Beijing on July 30‑31, 2026. The two officials exchanged views on strengthening bilateral trade, enhancing market access for Indian products—especially pharmaceuticals—and improving overall economic ties. Both sides pledged to increase cooperation and communication to support sustainable trade.

The talks followed a recent visit by India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and a meeting between Consul General Pratik Mathur and CPC Party Secretary Shi Huifang in Shanghai. Chinese customs data showed that in the first half of 2026, exports from China to India rose 21.8% to $79.41 billion, while Indian exports to China grew 37.2% to $12.31 billion, underscoring the growing trade relationship.
