India and China hold talks to deepen trade and media cooperation

Indian Ambassador to China Vikram Doraiswami met Wang Liping, director‑general of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce’s Department of Asian Affairs, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral trade and commercial cooperation. The two exchanged views on dialogue mechanisms and agreed to stay in touch as the two countries continue normalising ties after the 2020 Eastern Ladakh conflict. Recent trade data show bilateral trade reaching about $151 billion, with India’s deficit widening to a record $112.6 billion in 2025‑26.

Separately, Indian Embassy officials led by Minister Shweta Singh met Wang Jianxin, deputy director‑general of Xinhua’s Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Department, to discuss media engagement and the restoration of journalist visas. The meeting is part of broader efforts to revive people‑to‑people links, including the Kailash‑Manasarovar Yatra, visa exchanges and flight services.
