India and China reach eight-point consensus on border management
India and China have reached an eight-point consensus following the 25th round of Special Representative-level talks held in Beijing. The discussions, co-led by India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, aimed to strengthen border management and advance boundary delimitation.
Key outcomes of the agreement include a commitment to advance negotiations for an ‘early and substantial harvest’ border delimitation pact. To prevent misunderstandings and miscalculations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), both nations agreed to address outstanding issues through military and diplomatic channels, including the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) and local commander-level meetings.
Additionally, the two countries will establish two new border military hotline channels in the Eastern and Middle Sectors and add two meeting points for the General Level Mechanism/Senior Highest Military Commander meetings. The consensus also noted progress in trans-border cooperation, such as the reopening of three designated border trading points and an increase in the number of batches for the official Kailash-Manasarovar Yatra pilgrimage.
