India and Egypt strengthen aviation and defense ties

India is set to participate in the El Alamein International Airshow 2026 in Egypt from September 8–10. The Indian Air Force’s Sarang Helicopter Display Team will showcase the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv, highlighting India’s growing indigenous aerospace and defense manufacturing capabilities.

This participation underscores deepening defense ties between India and Egypt. India’s domestic production currently meets approximately 65% of its annual defense equipment requirements, with products exported to over 80 countries. The defense sector is increasingly supported by private firms and over 2,000 start-ups focusing on technologies such as artificial intelligence, drones, and electronic warfare.

In the commercial aviation sector, EGYPTAIR was named ‘Best African Airline’ at the Global Tourism Excellence Awards 2026. The airline was recognized for its engagement in the Indian market, with Country Manager Amr Ali receiving honors for his leadership in strengthening the carrier’s presence and promoting Egypt as a destination for Indian travelers.
