India and EU discuss electric mobility and battery manufacturing cooperation

Indian Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H. D. Kumaraswamy met with a delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) in New Delhi to discuss strengthening cooperation between India and the European Union.

The discussions focused on electric mobility, battery manufacturing, clean energy, and industrial decarbonisation. Kumaraswamy highlighted several Indian initiatives aimed at accelerating the transition to electric vehicles, including the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Automobiles and Auto Components, the PLI Scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC), and the PM E-DRIVE scheme.

Additionally, the Minister invited European companies to participate in a global bidding process for 10 GWh of Advanced Chemistry Cell manufacturing capacity for stationary energy storage, which remains open until October 13, 2026. The meeting follows the 16th India-EU Summit held in January 2026, where the two sides concluded FTA negotiations and adopted a Joint India-EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda.
