India and EU launch green shipping corridor coalition
India and the European Union have launched an industry-led coalition to develop a green shipping corridor aimed at decarbonizing maritime trade. The initiative focuses on establishing commercially viable routes using low-emission fuels, such as green ammonia and green methanol, to connect India’s renewable energy potential with European demand.
The project is linked to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). Key maritime hubs involved include the Marseille Fos port in France and Adani Ports' Mundra and Hazira facilities in India. The port of Haifa is also expected to play a vital role in this route.
This collaboration seeks to synchronize fuel production, vessel availability, and port infrastructure to support the transition to low-emission transport. The coalition aims to facilitate public-private partnerships and mobilize capital to scale green shipping technologies and energy-efficient vessel operations.
