India and Germany expand energy and climate cooperation

India and Germany are expanding their bilateral cooperation in energy and environmental sectors to promote a low-carbon future. During a meeting in New Delhi, Indian Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal and German Federal Minister for the Environment Carsten Schneider reviewed ongoing energy initiatives and identified new areas for collaboration.

Key areas of focus include energy security, electrification, decarbonization, and the development of resilient supply chains. The discussions also emphasized the interconnectedness of carbon markets and sustainable development. Both nations aim to strengthen their partnership through cooperation on climate adaptation, the circular economy, and sustainable resource utilization.

Following the fourth Indo-German Environment Forum, Minister Schneider highlighted India’s role as a strategic partner and noted that the engagement provides essential perspectives on global climate challenges, such as heatwaves and water scarcity. The meeting serves to build upon the 25-year Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
