India and Germany Near Finalization of ₹90,000 Crore Project‑75(I) Submarine Deal

India and Germany are close to signing a defence procurement agreement worth about €8 billion (over ₹90,000 crore) for six Type‑214 diesel‑electric submarines. The contract, known as Project‑75(I), will be executed through a partnership between Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems and India’s Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, with the vessels to be built in Mumbai under a strategic partnership and Make in India framework. The submarines feature advanced air‑independent propulsion (AIP) technology, allowing extended submerged operation and enhanced stealth. German Ambassador to India Philipp Ackermann said the deal could be signed as early as next month, marking a major milestone in Indo‑German defence cooperation and boosting the Indian Navy’s underwater combat capability.
