FIH Hockey World Cup 2026: India women secure historic fifth-place finish

The 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup concluded with several significant classification results. The Indian women's team achieved a historic milestone by finishing fifth, their best result since the inaugural tournament in 1974. They secured this position with a 3-1 victory over Germany, featuring two goals from Navneet Kaur and one from Ishika. In recognition of this achievement, Hockey India announced a cash award of Rs 50 lakh for the squad.

In the men's competition, the Indian team finished eighth after a 3-4 penalty shootout loss to Belgium following a 3-3 draw in regulation time. Meanwhile, the German men's team advanced to the final after defeating Argentina 2-1, setting up a title match against Spain.

Other notable finishes included Pakistan securing 11th place after a penalty shootout victory against South Africa, who finished 12th. Ireland's men's team concluded their campaign in 10th place following a defeat to New Zealand.
