India Defence Secretary visits Greece and Cyprus to boost maritime security

Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh conducted official visits to Cyprus and Greece in October 2026 to strengthen strategic and maritime security ties. The mission aims to bolster defence industrial cooperation and support the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), which utilizes Mediterranean routes to bypass Turkish territory.

In Cyprus, Singh met with high-ranking military and naval officials to discuss joint training, capacity building, and emerging technologies such as AI and cyber warfare. India reaffirmed its support for Cyprus’s sovereignty and its long-standing role in UN peacekeeping efforts on the island.

During his visit to Greece, Singh met with Deputy Minister of National Defence Athanasios Davakis and naval leadership at the Salamis Naval Base. Discussions focused on maritime security, coastal protection, and shipbuilding, specifically regarding Greek shipyards collaborating with Indian partners. The visit underscores a growing alignment between India, Greece, and Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean to enhance regional stability and economic security.
