India and Iran security chiefs discuss West Asia tensions
Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, held a phone conversation on Monday to discuss the security situation in West Asia and issues of mutual interest.
The discussions reportedly addressed escalating regional violence, including a recent attack on Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that killed 12 people and injured over 300. India has condemned the targeting of civilians and infrastructure in Saudi Arabia as “completely unacceptable.”
Maritime security in the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz was also a central topic. Recent incidents involving merchant vessels include the MT Petro Dolphin, which was hit by a drone in the Strait of Hormuz, leaving two Indian crew members missing. Additionally, the MT Valthera was struck by an unidentified projectile, though all 11 Indian seafarers on board were reported safe.
