India and Morocco aim to double bilateral trade within five years

India and Morocco are working to significantly expand their economic and commercial ties, with New Delhi aiming to double bilateral trade volume over the next five years. During the 7th Session of the India–Morocco Joint Commission held in Rabat, officials discussed diversifying trade, improving market access, and strengthening industrial cooperation.

Bilateral merchandise trade reached approximately $4 billion during the 2025-2026 period. Morocco’s exports to India totaled roughly $2.89 billion, while Indian exports to Morocco stood at about $1.6 billion. Key sectors for future cooperation include fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, renewable energy, digital transformation, and logistics.

Specific agreements and initiatives discussed include a Memorandum of Understanding on food safety between Morocco’s National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) and India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Additionally, officials explored cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and a Cultural Exchange Programme spanning 2026–2030. Morocco aims to leverage its strategic geography and infrastructure to serve as a gateway for Indian companies entering African and European markets.
