India and Russia aim for $100 billion bilateral trade by 2030

India’s ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, said the two countries have set a target of $100 billion in bilateral trade by 2030, a goal endorsed by the Indian prime minister and the Russian president. The focus will be on expanding existing trade volumes and identifying new areas of cooperation.

Energy cooperation remains a cornerstone of the partnership, with Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom advancing work on the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project in Tamil Nadu, notably Units 3 and 4. Kumar also noted a sharp rise in the number of skilled Indian professionals in Russia, from roughly 10‑15 thousand a few years ago to over 100 thousand today.

The next session of the India‑Russia Intergovernmental Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation is scheduled for later this year to review progress and set further targets. The remarks came ahead of the 18th BRICS summit, which India will host in New Delhi on 12‑13 September as the 2026 chair, and to which Russia has been invited.
