BRICS summit in New Delhi draws focus as Xi and Putin prepare for high-level engagements

Diplomatic activity is intensifying ahead of the BRICS summit, scheduled for September 12-13 in New Delhi. Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to attend with a large delegation of approximately 400 officials, marking a potential sign of stabilizing relations between Beijing and New Delhi following previous border disputes.

In Moscow, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss bilateral cooperation. Jaishankar highlighted significant growth in economic ties, including trade, energy, and nuclear sectors. The meeting served as a precursor to the upcoming summit, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to host President Putin. The two nations have previously set a bilateral trade target of $100 billion to be achieved by 2030.
