S. Jaishankar to visit Russia to co-chair 27th IRIGC-TEC session

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to undertake a two-day official visit to Russia on August 23-24, 2026. At the invitation of Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Jaishankar will co-chair the 27th session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC).

During the visit, Jaishankar is also set to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Their discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues. The IRIGC-TEC serves as a primary mechanism for monitoring and expanding cooperation in sectors such as trade, investment, energy, science, technology, and culture.

Separately, Indian Ambassador to Moscow Vinay Kumar highlighted the importance of people-to-people ties in the bilateral relationship during the ‘India Day 2026’ festival. He noted that both nations are working toward a $100 billion bilateral trade target, with key focus areas including energy, minerals, education, and tourism.
