India and South Africa Call for Practical AI Governance Policies

In India, the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) urged policymakers and industry stakeholders to shift AI regulation from theoretical guidelines to implementation‑driven governance. The body stressed the need for flexible, adaptive policies that support innovation across sectors such as healthcare, finance, manufacturing and public services, and called for stronger collaboration among government, industry and academia to create transparent, accountable standards.

In South Africa, business leaders highlighted the importance of organisational AI governance after the government withdrew a draft national AI policy that contained fabricated sources. They warned that waiting for regulation would place firms at a competitive disadvantage, noting that only a small share of companies capture most AI‑driven value. Executives urged companies to establish internal standards now, leveraging human talent alongside AI to ensure responsible and effective deployment.
