India and Thailand implement reciprocal visa easing for tourists

India and Thailand have introduced reciprocal measures to facilitate tourism between the two nations.

Starting September 15, 2026, Thailand will exempt Indian ordinary passport holders from visa requirements for tourism stays of up to 30 days. Travelers using this facility must possess a passport valid for at least six months, confirmed return tickets, and hotel bookings. Additionally, Indian tourists are required to complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) within 72 hours of arrival and are advised to carry at least THB 20,000 in cash. This exemption applies strictly to tourism; those traveling for employment or other purposes must obtain the appropriate visas.

In a reciprocal move, India has introduced a free 30-day e-Tourist visa for Thai nationals, which allows for double entry. This facility is scheduled to remain in effect until December 31, 2027, unless otherwise ordered by the Indian government. The initiative, announced by the Embassy of India in Bangkok, aims to increase people-to-people exchanges and tourism between India and Southeast Asian countries.
