India Announces 14-Day Bank Holiday Schedule for August 2026
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the official calendar for August 2026, indicating that banks across the country will be closed for a total of 14 days. Closures include Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays, and a series of regional and religious festivals such as Ker Puja (Tripura), Patriots’ Day (Manipur), Independence Day, Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur’s birth anniversary (Tripura), Onam and Milad‑un‑Nabi (Kerala and Andhra Pradesh), Barawafat, and Raksha Bandhan in various states. Specific dates when branches will be shut are August 2, 4, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 19, 22, 23, 25, 26, 28, 30, with some holidays applying only to certain states.
Despite branch closures, all electronic banking channels—including net banking, mobile apps, UPI and ATMs—will remain fully operational throughout the holiday period. Customers are advised to verify the holiday schedule for their particular city before visiting a branch.
