India announces National Sports Awards 2025 winners
The Indian government has announced the National Sports Awards 2025, honoring exceptional athletes, coaches, and institutions. The awards were presented by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Seventeen athletes received the Arjuna Award for outstanding performance across disciplines including athletics, badminton, boxing, hockey, chess, shooting, and kabaddi. Notable recipients include Tejaswin Shankar, Divya Jeetendra Deshmukh, and para-athletes such as Rudransh Khandelwal and Ekta Bhyan. The selection was based on recommendations from a committee led by former Supreme Court Justice Arun Kumar Mishra.
In the coaching categories, the Dronacharya Award was conferred upon Parveer Singh (athletics), Chhote Lal Yadav (boxing), and Neha Nandkumar Chavan (shooting). Lifetime Dronacharya Awards were given to Dharmendra Singh Yadav (boxing) and Virendra Kumar (wrestling). Additionally, the Army Paralympic Node in Pune received the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar.
The Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, India’s highest sporting honor, was awarded to four athletes.
