India announces 492-athlete contingent for 2026 Asian Games
India has announced its contingent for the 2026 Asian Games, scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 4, 2026. The delegation will consist of 492 athletes, including 265 men and 227 women, competing across 35 sports. To qualify, the Sports Ministry has implemented a strict criterion requiring athletes to be ranked among the top six in Asia in their respective disciplines.
India aims to improve upon its previous performance, where the contingent secured 106 medals. Key disciplines for the upcoming games include athletics, with 73 athletes participating, and shooting, with 30 athletes. The games will also serve as an Olympic qualification event for several sports, including archery, hockey, squash, and tennis.
Separately, the 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) are set to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from December 13 to 21, 2026. The Singapore Chess Federation has released its nomination policy for the event, outlining eligibility requirements for Singaporean citizens and detailing the specific chess categories to be contested, including individual men’s and women’s rapid and classical events.
