India approves 492-member contingent for 2026 Asian Games

India's Sports Ministry has officially approved a 492-member contingent for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The squad consists of 265 men and 227 women competing across 35 sports disciplines.

Athletics represents the largest group with 73 athletes, led by two-time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra. Other prominent athletes include shooting star Manu Bhaker, badminton player P.V. Sindhu, and weightlifter Mirabai Chanu. The contingent also includes strong representation in hockey, cricket, boxing, and wrestling.

The final roster reflects adjustments made by the Ministry, including the omission of certain athletes due to documented doping violations. While the athlete list is largely based on recommendations from the Indian Olympic Association, the list of accompanying support staff is still being finalized to ensure adequate medical and sports science coverage.
