India approves Northern Bullet Train Corridor from Delhi to Guwahati

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposed Northern Bullet Train Corridor, a high-speed rail network stretching from Delhi to Guwahati. Announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in Varanasi, the project aims to connect major urban, religious, and economic hubs including Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Patna, and Siliguri.

The corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel times. For instance, the journey between Delhi and Agra is projected to take just 59 minutes, while the trip from Delhi to Varanasi could be completed in approximately 3 hours and 33 minutes. Other estimated travel times include 1 hour 45 minutes from Delhi to Kanpur, 2 hours 12 minutes to Lucknow, and 1 hour from Varanasi to Patna.

Minister Vaishnav emphasized that the bullet train service is intended for all socio-economic classes, asserting that fares will be lower than airline tickets. In related developments, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed gratitude for the project approval and highlighted the launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train, which features 16 coaches and a capacity for 823 passengers.
