India approves Rs 1.23 trillion housing project in Andhra Pradesh and Rs 83 billion coastal highway in Odisha

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cleared a Rs 1,235‑crore General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) campus in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. The 17‑acre development will comprise 11 residential towers with 1,504 units, covering 31.30 lakh sq ft, and will meet GRIHA 4‑star green building standards. It will include amenities such as a bank, post office, creche, community hall, shopping complex and barrier‑free facilities. The project is expected to generate about 7 lakh man‑days of employment per year during construction and sustain roughly 50,000 man‑days annually once operational.

In a separate approval, the same committee sanctioned a 160.18‑km coastal highway linking Rameswar and Paradip in Odisha, under a hybrid annuity model with an estimated capital cost of Rs 83,007.9 million. The corridor will be built in two packages, featuring a four‑lane stretch between Rameswar and Konark and a two‑lane carriageway to Paradip, designed for speeds of 100 km/h. The highway is projected to cut travel time by 2 hours 30 minutes, lower fuel consumption and emissions, and create 5.361 million direct and 6.701 million indirect man‑days of employment during construction and operation.
