India arrests man for grabbing wild elephant's tusk for viral video

Ganesh Nayak and two others have been arrested in Odisha's Kendujhar district after a video surfaced showing Nayak grabbing a wild elephant's tusk to pose for social media photos.

The Forest Department initiated an inquiry after the clip began circulating online. Officials charged the individuals under Section 50 of India's Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, for provoking wildlife and violating protection laws.

Divisional Forest Officer HD Dhanaraj noted that the incident reflects a troubling trend of individuals risking their lives and endangering others for social media engagement. Dhanaraj stated, "This arrest sends a strong message that such reckless acts will invite strict legal action."
