India assures stable fuel and LPG supplies, urges public to avoid panic buying

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told citizens that the supply of petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) remains normal across India. The remarks followed the sixth meeting of the Inter‑Ministerial Group of Ministers (IGoM), which reviewed essential‑commodity availability and supply‑chain resilience in view of the conflict in West Asia.

The government also announced an amendment to the LPG (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2026, allowing consumers who have switched to piped natural gas (PNG) to terminate LPG connections within 30 days and receive a transfer voucher for future restoration elsewhere. About 7.99 lakh PNG connections have been gasified, bringing the total to 10.86 lakh since March. In the past four days, 1.72 crore LPG cylinders were delivered against 1.66 crore bookings. Public‑sector oil companies organised roughly 15,400 awareness camps for small 5 kg LPG cylinders, selling more than 2.45 lakh cylinders since early April. Citizens were urged to use digital booking platforms, conserve energy, and consider alternative fuels such as PNG or electric/induction cooktops.
