India automobile wholesale sales hit record high in August 2026

India's automobile industry achieved record wholesale sales in August 2026, driven by strong demand and a lower base from the previous year. According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), total production across passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers, and quadricycles reached 3,157,822 units, marking a 16.9 percent annual increase.

Passenger vehicle sales saw a significant surge of 36.5 percent, with 439,309 units sold. The three-wheeler segment grew by 22.8 percent to 93,764 units, while two-wheeler sales rose by 10.5 percent to 2,034,698 units. Notably, scooter production grew by 26.7 percent, outpacing motorcycle production growth of 9.1 percent.

Exports also performed well, with 681,338 units exported, a 22.2 percent increase compared to the previous year. Industry experts attribute the growth to robust consumer confidence, strengthening rural markets, and improved financing conditions. There is further expectation of demand growth during the upcoming festive season.
