India bank holidays: Closures expected for Raksha Bandhan and regional festivals

Banks across various Indian states will observe holidays on August 28, 2026, for Raksha Bandhan. Regional closures will also occur due to local observances such as Pang Lhabsol in Sikkim and Sree Narayana Guru Jayanti in Kerala.

Specific regions expected to see branch closures include Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Kerala. While physical branches may be closed, digital banking services including UPI, mobile banking, internet banking, and ATMs are expected to remain operational.

Looking ahead to September 2026, the Reserve Bank of India has scheduled numerous holidays, including Janmashtami on September 4 and Ganesh Puja on September 14. These observances will affect various cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
