India becomes ChatGPT largest market, says Sam Altman

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated during an interview on Raj Shamani’s “Figuring Out” podcast that India has become the largest market for ChatGPT, surpassing the United States in user numbers.

Altman noted that enthusiasm for artificial intelligence in India is higher than in many developed Western nations. He attributed this positive outlook to India’s rapidly growing economy and the high demand for services. He suggested that in developing economies, people are more prepared to adopt AI to meet various needs and create new business opportunities.

Reflecting on the initial launch of ChatGPT, Altman mentioned that many critics believed the technology was not yet ready. Despite the skepticism and risks involved at the time, he expressed that the decision to launch was a pivotal moment for the company.
