India emerges as top APAC data center market outside China

India has emerged as the largest data center market in the Asia-Pacific region outside of China. According to a BloombergNEF report, the country's live IT capacity has quadrupled over the last six years, reaching 1.7 gigawatts.

Significant investment is driving this growth. Domestic conglomerates, including Adani and Reliance, have committed $210 billion toward data center development, representing 45% of all announced investment. Global hyperscalers such as Google, Amazon, and Microsoft have announced $84 billion in commitments. Approximately 95% of all announced investments are specifically targeting large hyperscale AI campuses.

Maharashtra remains the dominant hub, accounting for 55% of India's total live IT capacity. The report also highlights a massive upcoming surge in energy needs, with India's data center electricity demand projected to grow from 11 terawatt-hours in 2025 to 91 terawatt-hours by 2035.
