India begins Test series in Sri Lanka aiming for historic wins

India is set to begin a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in Galle starting August 15. The series, which is part of the World Test Championship cycle, presents significant historical opportunities for the Indian team.

If India achieves a 2-0 clean sweep, they will reach 188 Test victories, surpassing West Indies (187) to move into fourth place for most Test wins in history, trailing only Australia, England, and South Africa. Additionally, playing the first match will make India one of the select teams to have played 600 Test matches.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is expected to play a pivotal role. He holds a strong record against Sri Lanka, with 326 runs at an average of 65.20 and 33 wickets in seven matches. Jadeja is also currently 52 wickets away from the milestone of 400 Test wickets.
