INDIA bloc leaders call for joint protests against Chief Election Commissioner

Leaders of the ‘INDIA’ opposition bloc are calling for unified protests against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, participating in a bloc meeting via video conference, stated that there is an anti-BJP sentiment in the country and urged all opposition parties to join forces against the CEC.

Thackeray and other opposition members are targeting Kumar regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, demanding either his immediate resignation or removal from office. While the Congress party held protests earlier this week, other groups are planning further actions. Specifically, Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) are scheduled to hold a joint demonstration in Mumbai on October 4.

Responding to criticisms regarding Thackeray’s physical absence from the Delhi meeting, BJP spokesperson Anand Dubey noted that leaders were present virtually and are focused on mobilizing a large-scale front against the Election Commission on October 4. Opposition members have expressed concerns that the Election Commission must remain impartial and should not act as a puppet for a specific political party.
