INDIA Bloc plans protest in Tripura over electoral integrity allegations
The INDIA Bloc's Tripura chapter has announced a large-scale street protest in Agartala scheduled for October 30. The alliance is accusing the central government of undermining democracy through the manipulation of electoral processes.
CPI(M) State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury alleged that the newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner has been granted immunity to manipulate election outcomes. The opposition has presented a five-point charter of demands, which includes concerns over a nationwide conspiracy to delete millions of voters, claiming that 2.5 lakh names may be removed in Tripura alone.
Tripura Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha further alleged that the administration is undermining Article 324 of the Constitution by manipulating voter registration processes to remove opposition supporters. He cited anomalies such as multiple voters being registered under a single EPIC number.
In response, Tripura BJP President Abhishek Debroy accused the opposition of selective allegations regarding Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and voter-list revisions. Debroy characterized the opposition's claims as attempts to create political unrest due to their declining influence.
