INDIA bloc meets to strategize against CEC and SIR irregularities FAST-MOVING

The INDIA bloc, a coalition of opposition parties, is meeting in New Delhi to coordinate a response to alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. A central demand of the opposition, led by the Congress Party, is the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, whom they accuse of acting under government influence.

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) has called for the suspension of the SIR process and the restoration of approximately 13.30 crore voters who were allegedly removed from the rolls. The party has also demanded the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on moral grounds. Opposition leaders are preparing a draft notice to move motions in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for the removal of the CEC.

While many leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Mamata Banerjee, are expected to participate in the strategic discussions, some parties have distanced themselves. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and DMK have opted not to attend the meeting, though the DMK stated it would support a removal motion in Parliament. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will be represented by delegates due to other commitments in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP has criticized the alliance, questioning its unity and leadership, and defending the Election Commission's processes.
