India Block opposition questions Election Commission credibility

Opposition parties within the India Block have raised significant concerns regarding the impartiality and credibility of the Election Commission of India. Following a recent meeting, Samajwadi Party MP Pushpendra Saroj stated that the opposition intends to take to the streets to defend democracy, citing doubts over the Election Commission's reliability and alleging political pressure on election officials.

The opposition has reportedly requested a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu to discuss these concerns. Key demands discussed include the use of ballot papers instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and ensuring greater accountability from the commission.

In response, BJP leader Dinesh Pratap Singh criticized the opposition's stance, questioning the sincerity of their alliances and suggesting they blame the Election Commission only when facing electoral losses. Singh argued that the opposition should return certificates issued by the very commission they now question and emphasized the government's commitment to secure and fair governance.
