India Cabinet approves ₹10,000 crore SME Growth Fund
The Indian Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the ₹10,000 crore SME Growth Fund (SGF). Originally announced in the Union Budget 2026-27, the fund is designed to provide growth-oriented capital to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to help them scale, adopt new technologies, and compete in global markets.
The fund will be implemented through an Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) structure. While it will support various sectors including services and technology, the majority of the allocation is intended for manufacturing-focused SMEs. The initiative specifically aims to assist businesses in Tier II and Tier III cities to strengthen local supply chains.
This move is part of a broader ‘Creating Champion MSMEs’ strategy. In addition to the SGF, the government has proposed ₹2,000 crore for the Self-Reliant India Fund and has committed ₹24,566.27 crore to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises to enhance liquidity and risk capital access.
