India Calls for Fairer Trade and MSME Opportunities at BRICS Meeting

At the 16th BRICS Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Jaipur, India, holding the BRICS chair, reaffirmed its push for a more balanced and inclusive global trading system. The government highlighted the need to expand trade opportunities for farmers, micro‑small‑medium enterprises (MSMEs) and other small businesses while protecting domestic producers.

India stressed the importance of growing the services sector – from information technology and professional services to emerging digital industries – as a key driver of employment, exports and economic growth. The discussion noted that digital commerce, technology, investment and cross‑border business are reshaping international trade, and called for a fair, rules‑based multilateral system that gives smaller firms greater certainty, easier procedures and better financial support to enter new markets.
