India commemorates Bal Gangadhar Tilak death anniversary with nationwide tributes

In Amritsar, DAV Public School on Lawrence Road held a special morning assembly to mark the death anniversary of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak. Principal Dr. Pallavi Sethi addressed students, urging them to embody Tilak's values of patriotism and duty. Pupils recited a patriotic poem and delivered remarks on Tilak's life and contributions to India's independence.

Across the country, senior officials including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla posted tributes on social media. They highlighted Tilak's role in awakening national consciousness through his newspapers "Kesari" and "Maratha", his promotion of public Ganesh festivals and Shivaji Jayanti celebrations, and his famous declaration that "Swaraj is my birthright". Their statements reaffirmed Tilak's lasting influence on Indian civic and cultural identity.
