India commits to eliminating Hepatitis B and C by 2030

India has reaffirmed its commitment to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) target of eliminating Hepatitis B and C as public health threats. Speaking at a UNGA 81 side event organized by the UN Group of Friends to Eliminate Hepatitis, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava detailed the nation's people-centered approach, which focuses on prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and care.

In a separate health advisory, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has warned against the indiscriminate use of antibiotics and painkillers, specifically Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). The advisory, issued to healthcare professionals and the public, cites the associated risks of developing Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and emphasizes that such medications should only be used under medical supervision and for clinically indicated durations.
