India conducts Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls
Authorities in India are conducting Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercises of photo electoral rolls to ensure accurate and inclusive voter registers.
In Tripura's West District, the revision is scheduled to begin on September 5, with the final electoral roll expected to be published on December 23. District Magistrate and Collector Vishal Kumar stated the process aims to include all eligible citizens while removing duplicate or fake entries through a transparent and participatory procedure involving political parties.
In Wokha, the Deputy Commissioner's office clarified that during the house-to-house enumeration, Booth Level Officers are not required to collect Aadhaar cards or other identity documents at this stage, only photographs. Supporting documentation will only be necessary if an elector's name cannot be mapped to previous rolls or if discrepancies are found during the draft roll publication phase.
