India economy growth estimated at 7.35% for Q2 FY27

India’s economy is estimated to have grown by 7.35% in the July-September quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, according to the Finance Ministry’s October Monthly Economic Review. This follows a 7.8% growth rate recorded in the April-June quarter. The estimate, derived from a nowcasting model, is supported by strong domestic demand, industrial activity, and increased consumption.

Key economic indicators for the second quarter include a 15% growth in gross GST collections and a 25% year-on-year increase in domestic automobile sales. While the overall economic momentum remains resilient, the ministry noted risks to inflation from rising crude oil prices, maritime freight disruptions, and potential El Niño impacts on agriculture.

Industrial production, measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), grew 6.7% year-on-year in September 2026, a moderation from the 8% growth seen in August. This slowdown was primarily driven by a 6.2% contraction in the mining and quarrying sector. However, manufacturing output grew by 7.6%, with significant contributions from electrical equipment (33.9%), rubber and plastics (19.9%), and motor vehicles (19.0%).
