India's global space market share projected to reach 10 percent
India’s share of the global space market is projected to increase fivefold, potentially reaching 10 percent within the next five to seven years. According to the US Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration, this growth is driven by policy reforms and strengthening ties with the United States.
The US Department of Commerce designated India’s space sector as its ‘Market of the Month,’ highlighting investment opportunities for American companies in satellite systems, advanced spaceflight, manufacturing, and connectivity. The partnership, which dates back to 1963, continues to evolve through the US-India Civil Space Joint Working Group and the TRUST initiative.
Domestically, India’s private space ecosystem is expanding rapidly. Cumulative investments in space startups surpassed $618.5 million by March 2026. There are currently approximately 440 registered space technology startups. The government has facilitated this growth through the Indian Space Policy 2023, liberalized FDI policies, and technology transfers from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) via NewSpace India Limited (NSIL).
