India Cracks Down on LPG Hoarding as Supplies Remain Stable
The Indian government has stepped up enforcement to prevent hoarding of cooking gas, conducting more than 1,900 raids nationwide. Penalties were imposed on 349 LPG distributors and 74 were suspended for stock‑management violations.
Domestic supply remains uninterrupted, with about 4.7 million LPG cylinders delivered on May 2 against 4.74 million bookings, and 100 % availability of household LPG, PNG and transport CNG. Commercial LPG allocation has been restored to roughly 70 % of pre‑crisis levels, and public‑sector firms have sold around 11,082 metric tonnes of auto LPG since April.
Targeted distribution continues for smaller cylinders to support vulnerable and migrant populations. Maritime operations are stable; a shipment of more than 46,000 metric tonnes of LPG safely transited the Strait of Hormuz, and Indian‑flagged vessels report no incidents. Overall authorities say the domestic LPG supply chain is well‑managed despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
