India cricket coaching staff overhaul expected after England T20 series

India’s national cricket team is poised for a significant reshuffle of its support staff following the conclusion of the T20 series against England. According to reports, at least one member of Gautam Gambhir’s coaching team is in advanced talks with an Indian Premier League franchise, and a second staffer may also depart shortly thereafter. The upcoming departures are linked to the expiry of two‑year contracts with a one‑year extension option (2+1) that many staff members signed with the BCCI.

The current backroom includes head coach Gautam Gambhir, assistants Abhishek Nayar, Morne Morkel, Ryan ten Doeschate, fielding coach T Dilip and spin‑bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule. The potential exits come amid a run of poor results – a 2‑0 series loss in Ireland, a 4‑0 whitewash in England and a 0‑2 home Test defeat to South Africa – fueling speculation that performance issues and internal friction may also be influencing the changes. The overhaul would mark the first major staffing shift since Gambhir took over after the 2024 T20 World Cup.
