India faces significant squad selection challenges due to a scheduling overlap between the 2026 Asian Games in Japan and a home three-match ODI series against the West Indies. The Asian Games, running from September 19 to October 4, will feature a massive 768-member Indian contingent, including a cricket squad captained by Shreyas Iyer.

Because several regular players—including Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan, and Arshdeep Singh—are committed to the Asian Games, the Indian selectors must assemble a separate squad for the West Indies series. Shubman Gill is expected to lead the ODI side. Key selection debates include the second wicketkeeper position, with Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel being the primary contenders, and the potential return of Ruturaj Gaikwad to the ODI lineup in Iyer’s absence.
