India Cricket Overhauls Squad for Zimbabwe T20I Series, Dropping Recent World Cup Stars

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a heavily revised squad for the three‑match T20I series against Zimbabwe, scheduled for 23‑26 July at Harare Sports Club. The selection omitted several recent World Cup heroes, including former captain Suryakumar Yadav, Player of the Series Sanju Samson, and other regulars such as Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. In their place, the board named newcomers Rinku Singh, Mayank Yadav, Prabhsimran Singh, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, and Harsh Dubey.

The revamp follows India’s series defeat to Ireland and has sparked debate over the BCCI’s long‑term strategy. Three uncapped players – wicket‑keeper batsman Prabhsimran Singh, right‑arm pacer Ashok Sharma, and fast bowler Yash Thakur – received their maiden India call‑ups, offering them a chance to secure a place in the national side during the Zimbabwe tour.
